Solar & Battery

Common questions about solar panel installation, battery storage, and what to expect from the process.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Most roofs in the UK are suitable for solar. South, south-east and south-west facing roofs at 30–45° give the best performance, but east and west-facing roofs still generate worthwhile energy. We carry out a full roof survey before installation to confirm suitability.

Will solar panels work in cloudy weather?

Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. On cloudy days output is reduced, but the UK still receives enough daylight throughout the year to make solar a worthwhile investment, even in South Wales.

How long do solar panels last?

Most manufacturers guarantee at least 80% output after 25 years. Inverters typically last 10–15 years and batteries around 10 years. Over that period, solar is one of the best long-term investments you can make for your home.

What is battery storage and do I need it?

A battery stores the excess energy your panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening — reducing your reliance on the grid further and maximising your savings. It's not essential, but it significantly improves the return on your solar investment.

Which solar and battery systems do you install?

We install a wide range of solar inverter and battery storage systems and recommend the equipment that best suits your property, roof layout, electricity usage, budget and future plans. Rather than pushing one manufacturer, we look at what you actually need and specify a system that offers the right balance of performance, reliability, monitoring and value. If you already have a particular manufacturer in mind, get in touch and we can discuss whether it is suitable for your installation.

Can I get paid for energy I export to the grid?

Yes — through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), energy suppliers pay you for any surplus electricity you export back to the grid. Rates vary by supplier. We can advise you on registering for the SEG as part of your installation.

EV Chargers

Everything you need to know about having an electric vehicle charger installed at your home or workplace.

Is my home suitable for an EV charger?

The vast majority of homes are suitable for a home EV charger. The main requirements are a modern consumer unit with spare capacity and a suitable outdoor location. We'll assess everything as part of our pre-installation survey — no additional preparatory work needed for most homes.

Will the charger work with my vehicle?

All our chargers use the standard Type 2 connector, which is compatible with virtually every EV sold in the UK. If you're unsure about compatibility before booking, just get in touch and we'll confirm.

Where will the charger be installed?

Most chargers are installed on an external wall of the house or garage, close to where you park your vehicle. We'll advise on the best location during our pre-installation survey and always aim to keep cable runs as neat and tidy as possible.

Can I charge using my solar panels?

Yes — chargers like the myenergi Zappi are designed specifically to prioritise solar-generated energy, allowing you to charge your EV for free using your own panels. We can advise on the best charger to complement your solar setup.

Do EV chargers come with warranties?

All EV chargers we supply come with manufacturer warranties — typically 3 years as standard, with some brands offering extended cover. Our installation work is also separately guaranteed, meaning you're covered on both the product and the workmanship.

Domestic Electrical

Common questions about home electrical work, rewires, consumer units, and inspections.

How do I know if my home needs a rewire?

Signs that your home may need a rewire include old rubber or fabric-covered wiring, frequent circuit breaker tripping, flickering lights, lack of earthing, or a fuse board rather than a modern consumer unit. We offer full Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) to assess the state of your electrics.

What is an EICR and do I need one?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a formal assessment of your electrical installation's safety and condition. Recommended every 10 years for homeowners and every 5 years for landlords. Landlords are legally required to hold a valid EICR. We can also carry out an EICR when you move to a new property.

Can you add extra sockets or lighting points to my home?

Absolutely. Adding sockets, lighting circuits, and other new installations is something we do regularly for domestic customers.

Please note: Due to current regulations, we are unable to carry out new electrical installations on outdated or unsafe consumer units. An EICR may be required first. To help us assess your setup, please send us a clear photo of your consumer unit when you get in touch — this saves time on the day. Just get in touch with your requirements.

Do I need building regulations approval for electrical work?

As registered electricians, we are able to self-certify our own work under Part P of the Building Regulations. We notify building control and issue the appropriate certification on completion — you don't need to contact building control yourself.

Commercial Electrical

Common questions about electrical work for businesses, offices, retail units, and commercial properties.

Can you work outside of business hours?

Yes. We understand that electrical work can be disruptive to a business, so we're happy to work evenings or weekends where necessary to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

Do you carry out Commercial EICRs?

Yes. Commercial EICRs are recommended every 5 years, or more frequently for high-risk environments. We provide a full written report and can carry out any remedial work identified.

Can you install three-phase power?

Yes. We can install and upgrade three-phase power supplies for commercial and industrial premises, including distribution boards designed for machinery, large HVAC systems, or other heavy electrical loads.

Can you take on large commercial projects?

Yes. We work on commercial projects of varying sizes, from single retail units to larger fit-outs. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we'll confirm our availability and provide a detailed quote.

Pricing & Quotes

How we price our work, what's included, and what to expect from the quoting process.

Are your quotes free?

Yes — all quotes are completely free and carry no obligation. We'll arrange a convenient time to assess the work and provide a detailed written quote.

Do you charge by the hour or provide fixed-price quotes?

We provide fixed-price quotes wherever possible, so you always know exactly what you'll pay before any work begins. We'll break the quote down clearly so you can see exactly what's included.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer. Payment terms will be confirmed at the quoting stage. For larger projects a deposit may be required prior to commencement of work.

What does a typical job cost?

Costs vary widely depending on the nature and scale of the work. A consumer unit upgrade, for example, is different from a full rewire or a solar installation. We'll always provide a detailed quote before work begins so you know exactly what to expect — contact us for a free assessment.
🛡️

Aftercare & Support

We don't disappear once the job is done. Here's what you can expect from us after your installation.

What happens after my installation is complete?

Once the job is finished, we'll walk you through everything that's been installed, explain how it works, and hand over all the relevant certification and documentation. If you have any questions afterwards, we're always just a call or message away.

Do you offer a workmanship guarantee?

Yes. We stand behind every job we carry out. If anything isn't right as a direct result of our workmanship, we'll come back and put it right — no arguments, no call-out charges, no excuses.

What warranties come with my solar or battery system?

Solar panels typically carry a 25-year performance guarantee and a 10–12 year product warranty. Inverters are generally covered for 5–10 years, and batteries typically come with a 10-year warranty. We'll always confirm the specific warranty terms at the quoting stage.

How do I monitor my solar system after installation?

All inverter brands we install — SolaX, Fox ESS, and SolarEdge — come with their own dedicated monitoring apps. We'll set these up for you during the handover so you can see exactly how much energy your panels are generating and how much your battery holds.

How do I make a complaint if I'm not satisfied?

We take all feedback seriously and aim to resolve any concerns quickly and fairly. Please visit our Complaints page for full details on how to raise a complaint and what to expect from our process.
